Before the start of the 2024-25 season, Lakers superstar LeBron James and his wife, Savannah James, were seen at the Los Angeles Dodgers NLDS victory over the San Diego Padres in Game 5 of the series.
With the win, the Dodgers advanced to the NLCS, where they will face the New York Mets.
While James seems to have been supporting the Dodgers and their Game 5 victory, some questions surround the NBA star’s loyalty. James is known to be a fan of the New York Yankees but was pretty involved with a few other franchises in October.
In one of his most recent posts, James sent a “good luck” note to the Cleveland Guardians. The Guardians will face the Detroit Tigers in Game 5 of the ALDS.
“Cleveland Guardians, Best of luck tomorrow!!! O-H.” James posted on Oct. 11.
Just two minutes before sending that public message to the Guardians, James congratulated the Dodgers on advancing to the NLCS.
“Congrats Dodgers on Advancing to NLCS!!!!” James posted.
Cameras caught James and his wife at the Dodgers game, showing the two on the jumbotron. When the camera panned to James, he crowned himself and his wife, playing off the “King James” nickname he’s donned for years.
James has been a known Yankees fan for years. He’s mentioned that when he was a child, he was a fan of “winners,” which drew him to the Yankees, who have the most World Series titles in MLB history with 27.
“I’m a supporter of winners,” James said in 2016.
“As a kid growing up, I needed inspiration to get out of the situation I was in. I loved the Bulls, Cowboys and loved the Yankees. Those are winning franchises.”
He’s been quoted confessing his fandom for the Yankees, so where does the love for the Guardians and Dodgers stem from?
In relation to his Guardians fandom, James is tied with the franchise since they are considered his “hometown” team. The 39-year-old was born in Akron, Ohio, seemingly connecting him with the Guardians.
James now resides in Los Angeles, giving him the nod to root for the Dodgers. He moved to L.A. in 2018 after leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to sign with the Lakers in a move that shocked the NBA community.
Given the constant back-and-forth from various MLB franchises, fans questioned James’ loyalty. His back-to-back messages to the Dodgers and Guardians raised eyebrows across social media.
“Weird wasn’t LeBron a Yankees fan?” questioned one fan.
“Wasn’t LeBron a Yankees fan? Now Dodgers…” said one fan.
“Known Yankees fan LeBron,” said another fan.
“LeYankee fan LeBron James.” commented one fan.
“I thought you were a Guardians fan,” mentioned one fan.
