Following Aidan Hutchinson’s injury, the Detroit Lions have been exploring potential trade options for an edge rusher, with New York Jets player Haason Reddick being a notable candidate. Reports indicated that the Lions inquired about Reddick, although the seriousness of their interest was uncertain.
However, this situation has changed, as Reddick has reportedly ended his holdout with the Jets. ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced that Reddick reached a new contract agreement and plans to report to the team soon.
Reddick’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, mentioned that they are looking to negotiate a long-term extension with the Jets. Last week, Reddick was allowed to seek a trade, and although he could have been a strong replacement for Hutchinson, the likelihood of the Lions acquiring him was low.
This was largely due to a conditional draft pick the Jets had sent to the Philadelphia Eagles when acquiring Reddick, which would have escalated to a second-round pick if traded to Detroit, complicating the potential deal.
General manager Brad Holmes already faced challenges in finding a significant pass-rushing addition, and with Reddick now off the market, those challenges have increased significantly.
