Max Verstappen is unquestionably one of the greatest F1 drivers in history. The Dutch driver has achieved phenomenal success in the sport at a young age. However, the three-time world champion may be looking to change his career shortly.
Verstappen’s current Red Bull deal expires at the end of 2028. This is a significant period for Formula One contracts. It should be mentioned that there have been suggestions that the 27-year-old is in talks with Mercedes due to an escape option in his contract with Milton Keynes.
Though, presently, Max Verstappen might not be so interested in joining a rival team. Rather, the reigning world champion might be ready to move to a different championship entirely after the end of the 2028 F1 season.
Lewis Hamilton has raced in Formula 1 since the 2007 season. The British driver has spent his entire career at the pinnacle of motorsport. However, Max Verstappen has made it clear that he won’t be sticking to F1 forever.
The 27-year-old recently stated that he is eager to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The three-time world champion highlighted that he’ll have plenty of time to race in other series after the end of his Red Bull deal in 2028.
“I want to race at Le Mans.. I have a contract until 2028. I’ll be 31 years old at the end of it, that is still very young.”
Verstappen has not hinted towards ditching Milton Keynes before the end of his deal. The reigning world champion will likely see out the entire contract unless Red Bull faces a massive slump in the next two years.
It won’t be a surprise if Max Verstappen decides to retire from F1 to race at Le Mans in 2029. The Dutch driver has previously stated that he has already achieved his goal in Formula 1, which was to win the world champion. Thus, Verstappen would find it easier to compete in a new category.
Moreover, the Dutch driver is far from happy with the sport over the FIA swearing ban saga. This could further deter the 27-year-old from extending his stay in Formula 1. However, it remains to be seen if Max Verstappen changes his mind in the coming years.
