No. 17 isn’t available because of Chris Mullin. Schroder says 17 is very special to him because he was the 17th pick and it was his late father’s favorite number, so reversing it was an easy decision to him”

When Schroder spoke to reporters, he was asked about two-time MVP Steph Curry (h/t 95.7 The Game).

Schroder: “When you go on the NBA app and see Golden State plays, you get excited… He plays like a video game. He’s just having fun, laughing, making the right reads every single time. He’s one of the superstars who I’ve got a lot of respect for… I’m really excited. I can’t say it enough. To be here, to be apart of something special.”

Schroder comes to Golden State with very productive aveages of 18.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 45.2% from the field and 38.7% from the three-point range.

Stephen Curry Reacts to Dennis Schroder’s Arrival at Warriors

The arrival of Dennis Schroder at the has drawn praise from Stephen Curry, the franchise’s superstar. Initially, the German point guard joins from the Brooklyn Nets after impressive performances last season. Consequently, the Warriors’ icon spared no words in lauding his new teammate, highlighting his offensive capability and defensive effort.

“He (Schroder) is a competitor. He can create, score, and lead an entire offense. I’m excited to see him fit in. He’s a guy I can play alongside in the backcourt, who can take on a lot of responsibilities as a point guard when I’m off the court,” Curry said.

“He gives us another player who can attack defenses, and on the defensive end, he loves to compete and is committed as well. So, it should be a smooth transition. We’ll see how it goes.”

Indeed, it wasn’t just Stephen Curry who was pleased with Schroder’s arrival at the Warriors. Head coach Steve Kerr also commented on the point guard, revealing a conversation with him and joking that he has already been defeated by Schroder on three different continents.

“I’m excited. I told Dennis Schroder today that he’s beaten me on three different continents,” Kerr said.

“If you can’t beat him, join him. But, you know, in the 2022 playoffs, I thought he was brilliant against us with the . Watching him in FIBA over the last two summers. In the Philippines and then we played against him in London during an exhibition game.”

Subsequently, the Warriors’ coach highlighted Dennis Schroder’s key characteristics and explained how the point guard is expected to fit into the franchise’s scheme.

“He’s a decision-maker, a competitor, a pick-and-roll specialist, a two-way player,” Kerr affirmed.

“This was a decision that we felt made total sense, so he will fill the role that (De’Anthony Melton) played for us, able to play with or without the ball. Excellent defender, long wingspan, he’s a steals guy, forces turnovers, brings pace, everything we need, we feel he can provide.”

Finally, rounding off the praise, Draymond Green commended Schroder’s demeanor and revealed his eagerness to become his teammate.

“I love the attitude with which he carries himself. He acts like he belongs in any environment, at any moment. I respect people like that,” Green declared.

“I’m looking forward to being his teammate and getting to know him better. But I know who he is and what he represents, and that’s what matters.”

Dennis Schroder Will Ease Pressure on Stephen Curry and Fortify Warriors’ Defense

Dennis Schroder’s young son, Dennis Jr., has a knack for brightening the mood, especially when it comes to the ever-changing landscape of his father’s NBA career.

Upon learning that they were heading to the , the excited boy couldn’t contain his delight, sporting a No. 30 Stephen Curry jersey. “He exclaimed, ‘Oh, we’re lucky; now we’ve got a good team!’ That was the first thing he said, and I couldn’t help but chuckle despite my initial sense of shock,” Schroder recounted, adding that his son is an ardent fan of Curry. “He tunes into every game, living and breathing basketball. He was even asking when he’d see Steph when I came home yesterday,” Schroder laughed, remembering how his son curiously bypassed the usual inquiry about his father’s well-being.

For Dennis, the prospect of teaming up with Curry for big scoring nights is exciting. However, he takes equal pride in holding his own defensively, a balance he hopes to bring to the Warriors. Schroder has shared the court with elite talent over the years, and now he’s eager to add Curry and Draymond Green to an already impressive roster of teammates.

“I can’t wait to hit the floor with these guys on Thursday,” he shared enthusiastically during his introduction at the Chase Center, following his first practice with the Warriors—his eighth franchise.

Schroder is slated for another practice session on Wednesday before making his Golden State debut against the on Thursday night. Excitingly, he has opted for jersey No. 71, a tribute to his late father, Axel, who favored the number 17. “I just flipped it around. It’s a special number for me,” said Schroder, who was acquired in a recent trade from the Nets.

Head coach Steve Kerr is considering starting Schroder alongside Curry, but he’s made it clear that Schroder will undoubtedly handle non-Curry minutes. The 31-year-old has proven his mettle against Golden State, averaging 18 points in past encounters—”Not a shocker; I’ve seen enough of him already,” Kerr remarked, eager to have Schroder as a versatile player whose two-way capabilities will bolster the team’s late-game organization.

“I like a bit of a spark,” Kerr described, confident in Schroder’s ability to alleviate some of Curry’s burdens. “Dennis is a competitor; he’s the kind of player you want in your corner.”

General manager Mike Dunleavy shares this optimism, seeing this partnership as an avenue for sustained success beyond the current season.

Right now, the Warriors are counting on Schroder’s scoring prowess to complement Curry. This season, Schroder has averaged 18.4 points and 6.6 assists, signs that he can be a vital asset.

“We all know we need to boost our offense, and sometimes a change in approach is just what the team needs,” Dunleavy stated.

“We’ll adapt as we see how things evolve. To utilize Schroder’s strengths, we might need to rethink some strategies.”

Trying to capture another championship is a priority, especially with Curry and Green’s window closing. With Curry turning 37 in March and Green 35 in the same month, time is of the essence.

Schroder is particularly thrilled about the prospect of sharing the court with a fellow Hall of Famer like Green. “I’m really excited to partner with someone who has always been fiercely competitive and fun to play against,” he said.

Green suggested a flexible approach is necessary for Schroder to find his rhythm within the Warriors’ system. “We weren’t expecting him to change fundamentally. He is here to bring his unique game to our style. It’s important we adjust to him,” Green commented.

As part of the trade deal, the Warriors parted ways with injured guard De’Anthony Melton and guard Reece Beekman. Melton is currently sidelined for the season following surgery to repair a torn ACL.

Furthermore, Golden State acquired a top-37-protected second-round pick for next year from the Nets, while Brooklyn received three second-rounders in 2026 and 2028 (both from Atlanta) along with Golden State’s pick in 2029.

Dunleavy remains in constant communication with Curry and Green regarding potential moves. “To clarify, those guys don’t pressure me for trades. They stay engaged, sure, but they never push for specific players. My job is to keep them informed, and they were fully supportive of bringing Schroder here,” he expressed.
