BREAKING NEWS: Mike McCarthy expresses interest in remaining with Cowboys

Mike McCarthy’s contract will end in a week, but he doesn’t plan to explore other teams. He mentioned on Sunday that he hopes to stay with the Dallas Cowboys as head coach for the sixth season in 2025. The team’s owner, Jerry Jones, didn’t promise to keep McCarthy after the Cowboys finished the season with a 7-10 record, including a disappointing 2-7 record at home. “I have had coaches who are under contract that I thought we might need to make a change, but they were also thinking about making a change while still under contract,” Jones explained. “So whether they are under contract or not does not really matter to me.” Lately, there have been rumors that McCarthy could be looking to offer his services elsewhere once his contract ends.

However, McCarthy stated that he wants to continue being part of the Cowboys. “Definitely. I have put a lot of time and effort into this team.” “The Cowboys have put a lot of trust in me,” stated McCarthy. “There are also personal reasons behind all these choices, but they are all leading us in the right direction.” I believe that when you put your time, effort, trust, connections, relationships, and understanding of what the organization can do into something, those are all good things to consider. I am a builder and I enjoy creating programs and helping young players grow.

In the end, it’s all about winning, and you need to have the right things in place to make it happen. I believe we have a strong base here.” McCarthy has taken Dallas to the playoffs three times in five seasons, with the team achieving a 12-5 record each time. The successful campaigns happened when Dak Prescott was the quarterback and healthy.

This season was the second time Prescott got a serious injury that ended his season. Both times, the team had losing seasons. McCarthy has won 49 games and lost 35 in the regular season with Dallas.

Jones hasn’t set a deadline for deciding on McCarthy, but he knows that Jan. 14 is the last day Dallas can talk to McCarthy first. Jones also mentioned that he would probably allow McCarthy to speak with other teams.
