As six teams around the NFL begin their head coach searches, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is the hottest name out there. All six head coach-less teams have requested to interview Glenn, and he’s already scheduled virtual meetings with four of them.
The New Orleans Saints are one of the most natural fits for Glenn, seeing as he was their defensive backs coach for five years and nearly got the head coaching job back during the team’s 2022 search. Glenn has a lot of love for the city and the franchise.
He also just got an endorsement from one of the most beloved people related to the Saints organization. Future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees publicly said this week that Glenn would be his top choice for the job.
“The first guy who comes to my mind is Aaron Glenn,” Brees told Crissy Froyd of Saints Wire.
“Arguably, one of the greatest defensive backs to ever play the game. I played against him, I was a teammate of his too. He’s a leader of men. He garners a ton of respect. He knows the game. He is highly competitive.”
Brees does not have a current position within the Saints organization, but it would be foolish to think that his word doesn’t carry any weight. Brees was the Saints quarterback for all five years of Glenn’s tenure with New Orleans.
Glenn is scheduled to interview for the job on Friday.
