LB LEGEND RECOGNIZED: Commanders’ Veteran Star Added to Pro Bowl Roster

The Washington Commanders only had two players make the initial Pro Bowl roster when it was announced in early January: quarterback Jayden Daniels and WR Terry McLaurin.

11 more were selected as alternates, though, and as other selections drop out due to either injuries or being set to appear in the Super Bowl, at least one more Commander will be headed to the competition.

That would be the ageless Bobby Wagner, who is now set to appear in his 10th Pro Bowl in 13 NFL seasons. During his first year in Washington, Wagner led the team in tackles with 132 during the regular season while recording two sacks and two fumble recoveries.

In the Wild Card round of the playoffs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Wagner made arguably the biggest play of the game when he recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter to give Washington an immediate red zone opportunity. More importantly, he brought leadership and big-game experience to the Commanders’ defense.

Wagner will play in the game after Zack Baun of the Philadelphia Eagles was forced to drop out due to the Eagles playing in the Super Bowl. He was one of three Commanders players named a first alternate for the Pro Bowl, with the other two being special teamers in long snapper Tyler Ott and Nick Bellore.

There’s a chance at least one of them could additionally get a late call up to the roster, as could some of Washington’s other alternates. Center Tyler Biadasz, LB Frankie Luvu and punter Tress Way were all second alternates, and since Baun already dropped out, Luvu is now next in line behind Wagner.

The Pro Bowl championship will be held at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, FL this Sunday.
