TRUMP’S REFUGEE PRIORITY: White South Africans Get Special Treatment

On Friday, President Trump directed government officials to prioritize the resettlement of South Africans of European descent, specifically the Afrikaner ethnic group, through the U.S. refugee program.

The move comes after Trump accused the South African government of discriminating against Afrikaners, who are descendants of European colonists.

Trump’s order, which may have been influenced by billionaire Elon Musk, claims that White South Africans are now targets of oppression, citing a law that allows land seizures, which South Africa’s government denies is racially motivated. Musk was born in South Africa.

The order instructs Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to prioritize humanitarian relief for Afrikaners who are victims of unjust racial discrimination.

However, it’s unclear how and when this plan will be enacted, as refugee arrivals were halted by Trump. The U.S. refugee program typically offers a safe haven to people fleeing persecution based on factors like race, religion, or political views.

Historically, most refugees admitted to the U.S. have come from countries in Africa and Asia plagued by war, ethnic strife, or repression of minority groups. Trump’s order also cuts off aid to South Africa due to its new land-reform law, raising concerns about the U.S.’ AIDS response program, PEPFAR, which provides HIV treatment to millions in African countries.
