With quarterback Brock Purdy also due for a contract extension after the 2024 season, the 49ers’ salary cap is under considerable strain.
The team’s general manager, John Lynch, and head coach, Kyle Shanahan, met with Aiyuk and his representatives this week, but the discussions have yet to yield a resolution.
Despite the current impasse, the 49ers maintain their stance that Aiyuk is not available for trade.
Aiyuk’s request comes at a time when the 49ers are focused on a Super Bowl run, making his potential departure a significant concern.
To mitigate this, the team has bolstered their receiving corps, signing Jauan Jennings to a two-year, $15.4 million deal and drafting Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing.
