COWBOYS’ SHOCKWAVE: Jones’ Bombshell Raises Questions About McCarthy’s Leadership

Jerry Jones has revealed that he does not intend to sack Mike McCarthy in the middle of the 2024/25 NFL season, as the Dallas Cowboys suffer another crushing setback, this time 34-10 to the Houston Texans on November 18.

The franchise has now slid to third place in the NFC East, much behind the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders, as they compete with the New York Giants to avoid being the division’s weakest side.

And whilst McCarthy has had his hands tied with a season-ending injury to Dak Prescott, the pressure is still ramping up on his position as head coach after five campaigns in the role without much to show for the backing.

However, despite stars such as Bill Belichick on the market, Jones assures he will not be sending the 61-year-old to the chopping block anytime soon after making the same mistake in the past.

“I have made a change early on a coach with Chan Gailey,” Jones told reporters. “And I’ve always regretted that.

“And I’ve made a change during the season (with Wade Phillips) and regretted that. And that’s the music I’m listening to.”

With their hopes of making the NFL Playoffs essentially gone, it’s almost time for the team to intentionally stop trying to win games in order to improve their own position in the 2025 draft as they currently sit with a 3-7 record.

And then when the season concludes, we will actually find out what the 82-year-old Jones has in store for his employee, who previously won the Super Bowl during his time with the Green Bay Packers.

WHO COULD REPLACE MCCARTHY?
So far, two names have been linked. That is Belichick, who won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, and Deion Sanders, who currently leads the Colorado Buffaloes program in the NCAA.

Belichick will likely not agree to the role and Jones will likely never make an offer considering they would clash over their views regarding the general manager position, which the ex-Patriot dominated during his time at the Gillette Stadium and the Cleveland Browns.

So that leaves Sanders as the favorite name as things stand. Formerly a Super Bowl-winning Cowboy, Coach Prime is popular in the Lone Star State and the NFL and he’s created a great offense at Folsom Field through Travis Hunter (receiver) and his son, Shedeur (quarterback).
