Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has berated a fan who asked him to sign a shirt after a loss to Bayern Munich.
Footage has surfaced on social media of Klopp approaching the Reds supporter outside what appears to be a hotel. They were waiting for the team coach after the pre-season friendly, which Bayern won 4-3 on Wednesday August 2.
In the clip, uploaded to TikTok by user @mathewatics, Klopp can first be heard saying: “Very quick yeah, I don’t really have time.” The fan then handed him a pen to use to sign the jersey.
But as he was about to sign, the German manager looked up and lamented: “And you gotta hold that damn shirt right.”
Two people behind the camera were heard apologizing before Klopp signed their shirts. In his post-match press conference, he indicated he was frustrated with the many interactions with supporters during Liverpool’s trip to the Far East.
He told reporters: “The vibe was great, I said it outside. People created something really special, we felt super welcomed from the first second. It’s intense too Everywhere, people were waiting for us, I understand that.
“But I’m sure I’ll open a door and everyone’s cheering, to be honest. I’m really happy when I can open a door at home and nobody applauds me!”
Klopp had seen his side concede the lead twice against Bayern. Goals from Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk gave them a 2-0 lead in the first half.
Serge Gnaby and Leroy Sane equalized before the break. Luis Diaz scored to make it 3-2 after the restart, but Josip Stanisic equalized before Frans Kratzig netted the winner in added time.
Liverpool will complete their pre-season preparations in England when they take on German Second Division side Darmstadt at Preston North End’s Deepdale Stadium next Monday (August 7).
