Liverpool fans want Mohamed Salah to ‘stop taking penalties’ as they demand new spot kick king

Mohamed Salah missed another penalty on Saturday in the Reds second league game against Bournemouth and fans fumed, with some demanding he should never be allowed to take one again.

The Reds came from behind to beat the Cherries at Anfield on Saturday, but their comeback was nearly halted in its tracks when Salah saw his first-half penalty saved by Neto.

Luckily for the home side he slammed in the rebound, but given that he’s now missed three penalties this year alone, Liverpool fans are adamant they want someone else to take the next one.

“Time to take Salah off penalties,” one supporter tweeted in the aftermath of the goal, while another wrote: “Yea take Salah off penalties this season please. I’m not ready for a repeat of last season.” A third added: “Don’t let Salah take one ever again.”

The likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been suggested as potential stand-ins, with both players missing just one spot kick each over the course of their respective careers.

Salah meanwhile has now missed six penalties for Liverpool, including one, funnily enough, away at Bournemouth last season, plus another at home against Arsenal. His goal on Saturday was the second in a 3-1 win, coming minutes after Luis Diaz’s spectacular acrobatic equaliser.

Bournemouth initially took the lead in the game after just three minutes via Antoine Semenyo’s close-range rocket, but Liverpool quickly wrestled back control of proceedings and were ahead by half-time.

Diogo Jota eventually wrapped the game up with a goal on 61 minutes, moments after Mac Allister’s red card for a studs-up challenge threatened to throw a spanner in the works.

The win saw Liverpool get back to winning ways following their opening day draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

The match marked the first time Salah failed to score a goal on the opening day of the season since moving to Liverpool, though he did have a goal ruled out for a marginal offside in the first half.
