‘By a country mile’: Glenn Hoddle says Liverpool have a player on par with Kevin de Bruyne

Former England international Glenn Hoddle has said Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ‘passing’ for Liverpool is on par with Manchester City’s star Kevin de Bruyne.

Hoddle thinks that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kevin de Bruyne are in a league of their own ‘by a country mile’ from players in the Premier League.

Hoddle noted that the Liverpool right-back is good at hitting those ‘killer passes’ that ‘takes the whole team out’, as he told Premier League Productions.

Whilst de Bruyne works his magic from the middle of the park, Alexander-Arnold makes the ball talk from right-back.

That was a big reason why the Englishman has won the lot in Liverpool colours and given that he is only 24, he will be hoping to secure all of those medals again.

Nonetheless, this is what Hoddle, who was one of the greats of his generation, had to say about Alexander-Arnold and de Bruyne.

“For me, it’s quite simple,” said Hoddle. “Him and de Bruyne are the best passers in the Premier League, by a country mile.

“When I say the best passers, I mean the ones that can hit the killer passes. That can take the whole team out with just one pass. He has got that ability.

“You make movement (as a striker) and Alexander-Arnold hits you, de Bruyne is the same.”

The England international is the only bona-fide right-back at Liverpool and there are calls for the club to buy a big-money player in that position, so their academy star can play in the middle of the park.

On the international stage, Gareth Southgate has started to use Alexander-Arnold in an attacking midfield role, and it’s only a small sample of matches, but he has looked incredible.

Whilst Liverpool fans dream of seeing Alexander-Arnold play that role on the domestic scene, it would require FSG providing money for a new right-back and, well, they are just about getting midfield players through their doors.
