‘Don’t put words in our mouth’ – Alisson sends clear transfer message after Liverpool win over Newcastle

Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker has insisted he and his Liverpool team-mates are not disappointed by the lack of transfer activity in the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp’s club have so far completed deals for Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo but are running out of time to get additional transfers over the line ahead of next Friday’s deadline.

The Reds recently failed to sign
Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both opted for Chelsea, in a major blow to their plans to overhaul the midfield.

Endo’sarrival days later gave this a boost, although many supporters still believe that Liverpool are weak in that area and defensively.

It remains to be seen whether Fenway Sports Group provide Klopp the opportunity to add to his group in the coming days, though Alisson has made it clear that he and the rest of the first-team squad are backing each other to deliver despite outside noise to strengthen.

Speaking after the Reds’ 2-1 win at Newcastle United, the Brazilian shot-stopper said:

“There are so many talks around us, about our feelings about the transfer window, please don’t put words in our mouth. We are together, we believe in ourselves and we showed that here against Newcastle in a tough place.

“We said in the changing room at half-time we should have chances and we should believe we are capable of doing something here. We did it. There are so many games we played, but this one is one of a kind.”

It proved to be yet another inspired display from the former Roma keeper, who recorded a career-high number of saves (7) in a single Premier League fixture during Sunday’s triumph at St James’ Park.

Commenting on this impressive statistic, the 30-year-old responded: “It was that many? I remember that one, it was really good. I am here for that, this is part of my job. The team is there to try and help me and avoid them having chances.

“Today was about passion and belief. We have to carry it forward, keep it high and focus every moment and really believe we can do something special this season.”
