Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez enjoyed a day to remember against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, and Luis Suarez has sent a message of support to Nunez after his decisive double.
Coming off the bench with 13 minutes to end of game, Nunez got the Reds back on level terms with an excellent finish into the bottom left corner and repeated this action in stoppage time to secure all three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
This brace could not have come at a better time for Liverpool’s No.9, who has been left out of the starting eleven for each of the first three Premier League matches of the season and faces a battle on his hands to displace the likes of Diogo Jota Luis Diaz.
His valuable contribution during Sunday’s showdown will go some way to helping his cause for a prominent first-team role, though it remains to be seen how Klopp responds to the forward’s match-winning display.
One individual who has been left impressed by the efforts of Nunez is none other than Suarez, who took to Instagram to congratulate his international team-mate. “Congratulations, Killer! Keep going,” wrote the former Liverpool striker after witnessing the Uruguayan’s emphatic performance.
Evidently eager for the 24-year-old to make a success of his time on Merseyside, Suarez spoke publicly back in November of his hope for the ex-Benfica star to shine at Anfield.
“Nunez is now playing for Liverpool like I knew he would,” the now Gremio attacker told the Mirror. “He has exploded – and I am sure there will be many goals and trophies for him there. I speak with him regularly. I want him to help him, for him to learn from my mistakes.”
