Sky sports pundit Micah Richards believes the form of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk gives Liverpool a better chance of winning the Premier League title than Arsenal this season.
Asked about which club are likelier to finish top of the table on The Rest is Football podcast, Richards answered:
“I would say Liverpool. Just because Salah and by all accounts, Van Dijk had a really good game [against Brentford] today.”
Salah scored a brace in the 3-0 victory over the Bees at the weekend, with goals in either half, while van Dijk returned to the side after illness to help the Reds keep their fourth clean sheet in the league this season.
Manchester City’s draw against Chelsea on Sunday evening means Liverpool are just one point behind Pep Guardiola’s side heading into the international break.
The Reds’ win earlier in the day put them above Arsenal into second place on goal difference, with Tottenham now 4th after their 2-1 defeat to Wolves.
Reds fans will get an even greater insight into whether Jurgen Klopp’s side are actually title contenders when they travel to the Etihad Stadium on November 25th.
It will be a huge test for Liverpool, who have had their ups and downs so far this season away from home. They looked down and out after going down to ten men against Newcastle, but two goals from Darwin Nunez secured an unlikely victory.
However, the Reds couldn’t hold out when they had two players sent off versus Tottenham at the end of September. They will be hoping to keep 11 men on the pitch when they face City later this month.
