Jamie Carragher believes the Premier League title race is wide open after Manchester City dropped points for the third successive match to slip to third behind Liverpool and Arsenal.
Pep Guardiola’s side played out a 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening, which comes after recent draws with Chelsea and Liverpool. As a result, the reigning champions now sit three points behind leaders Arsenal and one behind Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Much was made ahead of the current campaign regarding whether City would be able to find the desire to put together another title-winning season on the back of claiming the treble and cracks are certainly beginning to show in this team.
Arsenal and Liverpool will have been watching on in delight at Spurs’ ability to take home a point from the Etihad, with each club seeing their hopes of top-flight glory further boosted.
Meanwhile Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Joel Matip is facing an extended spell on the sidelines with a knee problem after Liverpool suffered another injury blow.
Matip was replaced midway through the second half of the 4-3 Premier League win over Fulham at Anfield on Sunday afternoon after suffering the injury when challenging Alex Iwobi for possession.
The centre-back, who has started nine of the Reds’ 14 top-flight matches this season, will now undergo scans to ascertain the extent of the damage.
But with Liverpool having last week seen Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota join Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic and Andy Robertson on the sidelines, Klopp admits the absence of Matip is a major blow given the hectic schedule that continues with a trip to Sheffield United on Wednesday.
