SUPER SPECIAL PLAYER: Owen Hargreaves says Liverpool have a player who’s better than Arsenal’s Declan Rice

What a champion performer Declan Rice is for Arsenal and Mohamad Salah is for Liverpool.

To think Jurgen Klopp could have lost Mohamed Salah to the ever-growing Saudi Pro League in the summer and Arsenal could have lost out to Manchester City for Declan Rice’s signature.

The two teams probably wouldn’t be sitting first and second in the Premier League table as we speak.

There have been enough Premier League games played this season to evaluate, analyse, praise and critique individuals and teams.

You could argue that Liverpool’s flying forward on the right, Mohamed Salah, has been one of the best players this season.

But Arsenal fans would argue otherwise with Declan Rice. Since his club-record transfer from West Ham United, he hasn’t put a foot wrong.

Saying that, Owen Hargreaves thinks the ‘super special’ Mohamed Salah, who scored his 200th Liverpool goal at the weekend, is the ‘Player of the Season’ so far, ahead of Declan Rice and Erling Haaland, as he told the Kelly and Wrighty Show on Premier League Productions (11/12/23 at 2:45 pm).

“He is just a super special player,” said Hargreaves. “The consistency and the elite levels he plays at.

“Firmino has gone. Mane has gone. I think this season, Salah has played the most minutes, and got the most goals and the most assists. The one constant you hear with Liverpool is Mo Salah scoring goals and being an amazing player.

“You could argue that he is probably the Player of the Season, so far. Probably the best player in the Premier League, whether it’s Haaland or Declan Rice. But he is there.

“To be top of the league, 200 goals and 150 in the Premier League. Quite remarkable what he has been able to achieve. The consistency and elite level he plays at, I think is quite remarkable.”

It has been another enthralling week of Premier League action, with Liverpool now leading the way at the top.

Arsenal are closely followed behind, but surprise packages Aston Villa, after beating Mikel Arteta’s side and Manchester City, are now also in the mix.

The current champions, even if they drop down to seventh, will always be in the race because of how well they can finish the season.

But in the middle of this busy festive period, there isn’t any runaway leader and it seems as though that won’t be the case for a while.
