As David Moyes contract extension by West Ham is still a matter of contention, striker Jarrod Bowen has been in exceptional form.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has lauded the Liverpool target Bowen for his ‘pretty special’ form for West Ham United this season.
The 27-year-old is predominantly a winger but has moved to a striking position under the manager this season.
Bowen has now scored 11 goals in 19 Premier League games this season including seven away from home.
Bowen is only three goals behind Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah and his form has been praised by Jamie Carragher.
Carragher has included Bowen in his Premier League Team of the Season so far for Sky Sports, naming him up front with Salah and Son Heung-min either side of him.
Carragher’s decision to name Bowen over Haaland caused some uproar from Gary Neville and the Liverpool legend moved to defend his stance.
The former Reds center-back admitted that Haaland is the best striker in the Premier League by a mile, but highlighted his injury problems and the fact that he plays in an all-conquering City side.
Carragher instead opted for Bowen, believing that his record of seven goals away from home this season is ‘pretty special’.
Bowen’s record of scoring in 11 separate games is also impressive to Carragher, who really loves what Bowen is doing as the spearhead in West Ham’s attack.
“Haaland has been injured of late, yes he’s the top scorer, but he plays for Manchester City,” said Carragher.
“Yes, he’s the best striker by a mile, but I felt that Bowen deserved to go in for the fact that he’s scored in 11 games this season out of 18, and seven goals away from home.”
“When you’re talking about strikers, you look at Solanke or Watkins, but I think both of them got a hat-trick in a game and didn’t score in as many games as Bowen and to score in seven games away from home, I think that’s pretty special as a striker,” he added.
Carragher will be well aware of rumours linking Bowen with a move to Liverpool.
The Reds are likely to receive further interest in Mohamed Salah from Saudi Arabian clubs and they will be looking across the market for left-footed attackers.
Bowen fits the bill, though is maybe a touch older than Liverpool usually target given that he is already 27.
Reports from TalkSPORT in October suggested that Bowen’s advisers are aware that Liverpool fancy him to replace Salah if the Egyptian moves on.
Additionally, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp named Bowen as his favourite player just last month and you can understand why there are rumours surrounding a move.
Carragher is clearly a big fan of Bowen and may yet see him make the move to Anfield in the future as Liverpool await developments on Salah’s future.
