Alisson Becker suffers major Liverpool injury setback as hamstring woe continues

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is out of Premier League clash away at Brentford on Saturday after suffering a hamstring injury.

The Brazil shot-stopper will miss Saturday’s Premier League clash having sustained the issue during a training session at Kirkby.

Alisson has instead remained on Merseyside to undergo further checks on the injury with Caoimhin Kelleher on standby to again deputise between the sticks.

The news is another significant concern for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who in the last fortnight has seen Dominik Szoboszlai and Thiago Alcantara sidelined with hamstring complaints.

Alisson missed three games earlier this season with a similar problem picked up during the closing stages of the 1-1 draw at fellow title contenders Manchester City in November.

He was also absent for last weekend’s 3-1 Premier League win at home to Burnley having suffered from a bout of flu, but had returned to training earlier this week.

Kelleher, who has made 13 appearances this season, was already expected to start the League Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday week after featuring in every game in the competition this season.

But the Republic of Ireland international is now poised for another extended run in the team, with Liverpool entertaining Luton Town in the Premier League on Wednesday and then welcoming Southampton in their FA Cup fifth round tie a week later.

Klopp is already without Trent Alexander-Arnold for those fixtures with the vice-captain having aggravated a knee problem during the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal a fortnight ago.
