Liverpool are bracing for their return to Premier League action today.
Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to West London to tackle Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. The Reds go into the contest top of the league table, two points clear of Manchester City and Arsenal.
Man City have a game in hand over Liverpool, which is against Brentford next week. The Reds will have the chance to move five points clear of Pep Guardiola’s team with a victory over the Bees, with City hosting Chelsea a few hours later.
Klopp will be forced to deal with several injury concerns for Liverpool’s game against Brentford. Some of his star players are unavailable, including one injury blow that occurred during training this week.
Alisson Becker suffered a hamstring in training and is unavailable to face Brentford. Caomhin Kelleher is set to start in the Brazilian’s place, with it uncertain as to how long Alisson will be on the sidelines.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (knee), Dominik Szoboszlai (hamstring) and Thiago Alcantara (hamstring) are also unavailable through injury. Stefan Bajcetic, Joel Matip and Ben Doak are long-term absentees.
There is one boost for Liverpool, though, with the expected return of Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has not played since New Year’s Day against Newcastle United due to his international commitments at the Africa Cup of Nations and a subsequent muscle injury.
Salah has now returned to full training and is expected to be part of the squad that travels to West London to face Brentford. It remains to be seen, though, if Klopp will include the 31-year-old in his starting line-up.
