Jacob Cowing Selected in Fourth Round of NFL Draft by San Francisco 49ers

Former Arizona wide receiver Jacob Cowing has been selected in the fourth round (135th overall) by the San Francisco 49ers.

Cowing is the second Wildcat taken in the 2024 NFL Draft joining offensive lineman Jordan Morgan who was selected in the first round (25th overall) by the Green Bay Packers.

He became the highest Arizona wide receiver selected since Mike Thomas in 2009 (4th Rd, 107 overall; Jacksonville) and the first wide receiver since Juron Criner (5th Rd, 168th overall; Oakland) in 2012.

The Maricopa native is the first Wildcat selected by the 49ers since defense end David Wood (DL – 11th Rd; 308th overall) in 1985.

It marks the first time since 2021 that Arizona has had two players selected in the NFL Draft. Roy Lopez was drafted in the sixth round (195 overall) by the Houston Texans and Gary Brightwell Jr. was also picked in the sixth round (196 overall) by the New York Giants.

Cowing finished his college career with 4,477 total yards leading all active players. During the 2023 season, he became the 22nd player in FBS history to record over 4,000 receiving yards. Cowing finished his career seventh all-time among FBS players in career-receiving yards.

He caught 13 touchdown passes during his final season with the Wildcats, setting a single-season program record. Cowing was named Alamo Bowl Offensive MVP after posting 152 receiving yards and reeling in two touchdown receptions in the 38-24 win over No. 12 Oklahoma.

In his two seasons with Arizona, Cowing notched 1,882 career receiving yards (13th in program history) and caught 20 touchdowns (6th in program history).

Cowing participated in the 2024 NFL Draft Combine and posted the fifth-fastest 40-yard dash time among wide receivers (4.38).

The Arizona Wildcats open the 2024 season against New Mexico on Aug. 31 at Arizona Stadium.
