Talanoa Hufanga received some very positive news regarding his return from a torn ACL.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said his All-Pro safety is close to returning to the field during training camp.
Shanahan said the former Oregon high school star is expected to rejoin the team in the next two weeks.
“I think he’s going to get checked up when we go down to L.A. and scrimmage,” Shanahan told reporters on Saturday.
“And I think down there is where we kind of were expecting around that time.”
Shanahan seems to be targeting the week of the 49ers travel to Southern California to hold joint practices with the New Orleans Saints in Irvine.
The joint practices are scheduled for August 15 and 16 before the two teams meet in a preseason game at Levi’s Stadium on August 18.
Hufanga, who starred at Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, suffered the torn ACL during the 49ers’ 27-14 Week 11 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had posted 52 total tackles and three interceptions in 10 games before the injury.
Hufanga was a first-team All-Pro selection after posting 62 total tackles, four interceptions, nine passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two sacks in 2022.
