Kentucky Outlasts Tennessee in Lexington to Complete Season Sweep

Kentucky has had a hard time solving anybody lately, but Tennessee has been the safe haven for the Wildcats during this roller-coaster of a season.

For the second time in exactly 2 weeks, 15th-ranked Kentucky took down the 5th-ranked Volunteers, this time with a methodical 75-64 victory on Tuesday night at Rupp Arena. The Wildcats did it with defense, holding the Vols to putrid 3-for-18 shooting from 3-point territory, and they did it with scoring balance, with no Kentucky player scoring over 13 points.

Ansley Almonor and Otega Oweh each scored 13 points, with Koby Brea and Trent Noah both chipping in 11 as the Wildcats crept back over .500 in the SEC at 6-5 to go with their 17-7 overall record. Meanwhile, Tennessee fell to 20-5 overall and 7-5 in the SEC and had its winning streak snapped at 3 games.

Amazingly, the Wildcats shot exactly 50% from the field (26 of 52) and from 3-point land (12 of 24), kept their turnovers down to just 8 and won despite being outrebounded, 33-26.

Zakai Zeigler led Tennessee with 17 points and 6 assists, and Igor Milicic Jr. added 16 points and 9 rebounds.

Tennessee will try to bounce back on Saturday back at home against in-state rival Vanderbilt, while Kentucky will try to keep its momentum going on Saturday in primetime at Texas.
