Wildcats Tie All-Time College Basketball Record in Victory Against Mizzou

The Kentucky Wildcats have gone through a ton of bumps and bruises this season in the jungle that was the SEC.

But Mark Pope’s 19th-ranked team made it through that jungle alive, and in doing so it joined some elite company after Saturday’s 91-83 victory at No. 15 Missouri. The win tied Kentucky for the most regular-season wins against opponents ranked in the top 15 of the AP Poll over a single season.

With the road takedown of the Tigers, the Wildcats (21-10, 10-8 SEC) now have an astounding 8 of those wins this season, tying them with the 1992-93 Indiana team and the 1978-79 Duke team. That’s per Kentucky statistician Corey Price:

Kentucky’s achievement this season is as much a testament to the Wildcats’ resilience after going through a 4-6 stretch as it is an example of just how mighty the SEC was this season. Kentucky had a lot of chances to play top 15 teams this season, and through an entire regular season that finished on Saturday, it was able to gather 8 such victories.

Saturday’s triumph at Mizzou was just the latest and the last one, and now the Wildcats will try to build on their late-season momentum in the SEC Tournament and March Madness.
